Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, at Long Beach in California. DuVernay started to discover her artistic and creative side as a child because of her Aunt Denise. The aunt worked as a nurse who stayed overnight so that she could have the chance to learn about art theatre or literature. DuVernay instantly fell in love when she showed her that 1961 West Side Story film. DuVernay was instructed by her mom that art can be used as a tool for activism. DuVernay developed a social mindful through her mother. DuVernay was a child living with family members in Compton and spent her summers at Lowndes County Alabama in the family home of her father. Her father recalled the Civil Rights marches that occurred across the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the nearby town of Selma, Alabama. DuVernay visited Selma during the summers and was later motivated to make a documentary on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay finished Saint Joseph High School at Lakewood in the state of California in 1990. Following graduation, DuVernay enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles and earned degrees both in English and African American study. DuVernay started broadcasting journalism as a student. She began as an intern for CBS News during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalls being tasked to watch the home of one of the members of the jury as well as examine their junk. Her tasks to complete left her unhappy and, following her decision not to continue in journalism, she moved on into the industry of publicity. DuVernay began her professional career as a junior assistant to publicity for a film studio that was small shortly after she graduated from college. She was promoted to the position and set up her own public relations company known as The DuVernay Agency in 1999.
